The last major volcanic eruption in what is now Germany was 13,000 years ago,
I was very major.
The Eifel still shows signs of seismic activity, moving upwards at 1mm per year, with CO2 rising in lakes filling old volcanic craters.
Moeover, previously, the gap between major eruptions was 10,000 years, so a new one might be overdue.
The last thing comparable in what is now the UK was 55 million years ago,
Mind you, a German eruption might make things pretty shit in the UK, though not as shit as in Germany itself.

Icelanders eat Greenland shark (not sure if Greenlanders eat it, or even Iceland shark).
Because the Greenland shark's flesh is full of ammonia, it has to be buried for years before it is eaten (a French cookbook calls this "maturation dans la boite horrible" excuse my circomflexness).
Even so, the Icelanders eat it with a special acidic alcoholic drink, to partially neutralise the alkali in the flesh.
Never tried it myself, but want to, before I'm so old that the experience will kill me...

Germany is as chock-full of dormant volcanoes, as the UK is of extinct volcanoes.
You can call extinct volcanoes useless wankers, and even piss on them.
I wouldn't take that risk with dormant ones...
